Gypsy's Shiny
Diner
The aesthetic appearance of Gypsy's Shiny Diner garnered a great
deal of attention during its design and construction. However, little
attention was paid to the functionality of its walkways.
Entrance to Gypsy's Shiny Diner on Buck Jones Road. Note
that the sidewalk does not extend into the restaurant's access road,
forcing pedestrians to share the access road with automobiles and
walk to the far left side of the property before entering the parking
lot, which is encircled by shrubs. Also, no crosswalk or traffic
light exists to protect pedestrians crossing from the South Hills
shopping plaza across Buck Jones Road.
Another view of the sidewalk in front of Gypsy's parking
area. Typical of sidewalks surrounding new commercial developments,
the building entrances cannot be accessed without walking in the path
of automobiles.
The sidewalk between the front entrance of Gypsy's and the
restaurant's parking lot. This sidewalk reaches the end of the
parking lot , but multiple rows of shrubbery and a hill separate it
from the sidewalk on Buck Jones Road.
