Tree-Lined Streets
Trees between the street and sidewalk, such as on this
section of Dynasty Drive, make walking safer and more comfortable.
The texture and proximity of trees along the roadway create a traffic
calming effect, resulting in better compliance with speed limits
compared to other sections of this street which lack these trees.
Pedestrians walking on the other side of the trees experience a sense
of separation from the street traffic. Streetside parking provides
an additional buffer.
Streetside trees provide shade to pedestrians and the
street surface. This decreases the ground temperature in urban areas
during hot summer months and makes walking more pleasant.
The features of this area near the Black Creek Greenway
make it a popular place to exercise. The cars parked at left brought
pedestrians, cyclists, and rollerskaters to the greenway, presumably
from other neighborhoods that are not as conducive to these
activities.
