Waverly
Place
Waverly Place includes some of the best walkability features of
any private commercial development in Cary. It also has some
shortcomings, which is why it appears on both the "Smart" and "Dumb"
lists. Here's what's smart about Waverly Place:
- The outdoor areas are attractive and offer spots for visitors
to stop and relax. Waverly is really a "place" where people can
enjoy themselves.
- A mixture of shops, restaurants, and services allows visitors to accomplish multiple goals, from errands to
entertainment, without making multiple car trips. Family or
friends can "spend an evening" without driving all over town.
- Pedestrians can comfortably stroll from store to store on the
wide, open paths without crossing parking lots or colliding with
other shoppers and shopping carts on narrow sidewalks.
Large, open walkways, second-floor levels connected by
wide catwalks, lots of window-shopping, and cafe-style restaurants
show that Waverly Place was designed for human beings.
Fountains, benches, and shade trees, oh my!
