Wellington Park
Shopping Center
Wellington Park is a shopping center built in 1998 next door to a
residential area. An aesthetic buffer of woods and a lack of
connecting sidewalks make it inconvenient and sometimes hazardous for
neighborhood residents to reach on foot.
The sidewalk that runs along the street between a
residential neighborhood and the Wellington shopping center does not
connect with the storefronts.
Local residents who enter from the street sidewalk must
share the long commercial driveway with automobiles.
At the end of the driveway, it's still a long, unprotected hike a cross the parking lot to get to the stores.
Some residents have worn trails down the steep embankments
and through the wooded buffer between the sidewalk and the back of
the mall. Several of these trails exist; most are concentrated at
gaps between the buildings. All were well-used, but only by the most
able-bodied citizens.
